Catherine sees the world differently than many of us – where we see problems, she sees solutions – even without seeing the house itself. After only one telephone conversation, I was able to identify why one area of my home was in a constant state of chaos: the foyer.

Since it’s such a small area, the deacon’s bench had seemed a smart solution for storing gloves, hats, and umbrellas. But the problem was there was no place for the daily utility items: keys, glasses, receipts, coins. They were all being tossed onto the deep window ledge to the point of spilling over.

Catherine talked about identifying clutter zones and instead of wishing away the clutter (which never works), giving it a place and a system for maintaining order. She gave some examples that worked for clients as well as in her own home.

One glance into my dining room revealed the answer: my four-drawer dining room server was the perfect size to replace the deacon’s bench and wasn’t being sufficiently used anyway. In 10 minutes, the server was in place.
